How Verboten works

An app blocker that stays out of your way

Verboten blocks the apps you choose. Pick them once, and they stop opening — until you decide otherwise.

Getting started

Open the app, tap + Add apps, and choose from Apple's Screen Time picker. Turn the switch on. That's the whole setup.

Granting Screen Time access

iOS asks for Screen Time permission the first time you add apps. Without it, iOS will not let any app block another — so if you declined, nothing will block until you grant it. You can do that from Settings → Allow Screen Time access inside Verboten.

Letting an app open for a few minutes

Tap the app in your list and choose how long. It opens for that long, then blocks itself again — and the setting returns to Never on its own, so a moment of weakness doesn't quietly become a permanent exception.

Pausing everything

Tap Pause on the home screen and pick a length — thirty minutes, an hour, the rest of today. Blocking comes back by itself when the time is up. There is nothing to remember to switch on again.

Blocking only at certain hours

In Settings, under When blocking is on, add a window — evenings, work hours, overnight. A window can apply to every app or to a single one, and a window that starts at night and ends in the morning is understood as running overnight. With no window set, blocking is simply always on.

Today's news

An optional bulletin of AI headlines from real newsrooms, grouped so the same news isn't reported to you five times over. Swipe up for the next headline; after the tenth it ends and returns you to the app. Turn it off in Settings if you would rather have nothing to read at all.

Reminders

If you like, Verboten can nudge you to switch blocking back on — but only while something is actually unblocked, and never between 8pm and 7am. It will not nag you about a wall that is already standing.

Does it keep working if I close the app?

Yes. Blocking is enforced by iOS itself, so it holds when Verboten is closed, swiped away, or after a restart.

Something not working?

Email support@readloft.app and say which phone you are on and what happened. A screenshot helps more than anything else.
